Janae Haaland is originally from Little Falls, Minnesota. She earned a B.A. from Hamline University with a major in communications and minors in women’s studies and music. Janae also holds a master’s degree in women’s studies from The George Washington University, where she was a university fellow and graduate teaching assistant. She originally planned to become a professor, but changed course after realizing her interest in information technology. Before joining Mason Recreation in 2015, Janae worked as a writer and editor, a web developer, a systems administrator and a technology project manager for both non-profit organizations and for-profit businesses. In her spare time, Janae enjoys cooking for her two hungry kids, singing, playing the piano, spending time with friends and family, walking in the woods, being near water and pampering her two spoiled cats.
Janae’s advice to students: “Don’t be afraid to re-invent yourself and try something new.”
