In Spring 2020, Mason Recreation will host its 7th Indoor Triathlon! This event will take place on Saturday, March 28th at the Aquatic & Fitness Center on the Fairfax Campus of George Mason University. The Indoor Triathlon consists of 3 sections (legs). 15 minutes swimming, 20 minutes biking, and 20 minutes running for a grand total of 55 minutes + transition time. Registration is open now in person and online. Click here to register online!
Date: Saturday, March 28th, 2020
Check-In: 30 mins before your assigned heat
Heats Start: 9:30 am
Location: Aquatic and Fitness Center (AFC)
How Does It Work?
Heats will consist of 5 participants. Each heat will have 10 minutes of transition time from the swim to the bike sections and 5 minutes of transition time from the bike to the run sections. Volunteers will record the total laps (swimming) and miles (biking and running) completed during the event.
Participants will do their best to log up as many miles as they can in each leg of the event by swimming, biking, and running, in that order.
***Participants are required to provide their own equipment such as swim suits, caps, and running shoes. Towels will be provided.***
Team Participation Available
Don’t want to compete on your own? You don’t have to. We will also have a team division where teams consisting of 2-3 members can compete. For example, 1 person completes the swim/bike, the other does running, or 3 separate people complete one leg of the heat. Exercise is more fun when you complete it with friends.
The participant with the highest distance for each leg of the event will receive 100 points for that leg. The other competitors will receive a percentage of those points based on the distance they traveled in that leg. Each leg of the race counts equally towards the total score. Swim Points + Bike Points + Run Points = Total Score.
- For example: Xavier swims the furthest distance by completing 35 lengths, so he gets 100 points for that leg. Another participant swims 30 lengths. 30 lengths divided by 35 lengths = .85 x 100 = 85 points. So, that competitor receives 85 points for that leg of the event.
Awards are provided for participants competing as individuals by age group and an overall Team Champion. Age groups are listed below. Each age group is divided into male and female sections. Champions are determined by total total points at the end of the event. There will be individual age group champions and an overall male and female Indoor Triathlon champion. There will be one award for the overall Team Champion.
