Graduate Teaching/Research Assistants
Excerpt from University Catalog Section AP.6.2 Full-Time Classification
“Graduate students are considered full time if they are enrolled in at least 9 graduate credits per semester or hold a full-time assistantship (total 20 hours a week) and are enrolled in at least 6 graduate credits per semester.”
NOTE: The most common problem associated with Full-Time status among graduate teaching (GTA) or research assistants (GRA) is that their coursework enrollment and employment are NOT CONCURRENTLY ACTIVE. In order to produce a Full-Time time-status a GTA or GRA must have A CONCURRENTLY ACTIVE 6 credit total course enrollment and employee code/job. A graduate student may enroll in 6 credits of coursework, but without the active employment code, their time status will remain HT (Part-Time). GTAs and GRAs who visit the Mason Recreation facilities and appear as Part-Time in the facility access database should contact the person in their department who is tasked with completing the employment paperwork and check to make sure that 1) The employment process is complete 2) The hiring date has started. If the employment process is still being conducted or is delayed, students should refer to Mason Recreation’s policy on Pending Time Status.
-[In these cases and other cases where current time status is Part-Time and Full-Time time-status is pending, Mason Recreation’s policy is to allow only one (1) free entrance. After that free entrance is used, if Full-Time time-status is still pending, the student must pay up front for access to the facilities ($8 per day, or $50 semester fee during Fall/Spring, or $30 summer fee during Summer).
These fees will be fully refunded if/when the student’s time-status changes to Full-Time. Once the student’s time-status changes to Full-Time, he or she should contact Membership Services to initiate the refund process.]-
