The George Mason University Crew Club offers students the ability to compete in the first competitive intercollegiate sport in history. As members of a team that has been well-established in the rowing community for over 25 years, students have the opportunity to compete at one of the highest levels of rowing in the country. Since its introduction to GMU in 1981, the Crew Club has sent boats of 4 and 8 men to competitions in places such as Boston, Philadelphia, and Gainesville, Georgia, the site of the 1996 Olympics.Rowing is a year-round sport that requires strength, endurance and fitness for success. While it can be a fun and rewarding experience, it is not a sport for everyone, certainly not the faint of heart. For those who make the decision to participate and have the will to persevere, collegiate rowing can be the experience of a lifetime.
No tryouts or previous experience is required, and everyone that joins the club is permitted to race during their first season. So whether you want to get into shape, meet new people, challenge yourself in a new and unique way, or just see what rowing is all about, come out to practice and check it out.
