Lauren Shutt is from Warrenton, Virginia. She earned her B.S. in Communication Studies as well as her M.S. in Sport and Recreation Leadership from James Madison University. Prior to George Mason, she was a Graduate Assistant for Health Promotion at James Madison University Recreation. Lauren is an active member of the Virginia Recreational Sports Association (VRSA) and the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA). She is the current State Director of VRSA, and in the past, she has served as the Assistant State Director and the State Student Leader for the state. Additionally, she served as a Student Seat for the NIRSA Assembly from 2023-23 and was on the 2026 NIRSA Annual Conference Host Committee. In 2024, she received NIRSA’s William N. Wasson Student Leadership & Academic Award for her outstanding contributions to collegiate recreation.

In her free time, she enjoys going to concerts, photography, watching hockey, spending time with her friends and family, and hanging out with her chaotic tabby cat, Teddy.
