Eligibility for Participation – Outdoor Adventures trips are open for any active George Mason University students, faculty, and staff.
Participant Cancellation and Refund – Refunds will be given for any withdrawal made from a trip two weeks before the trip date. No refunds will be given for withdrawals within the two-week timeframe of a trip unless for cancelled events/programs or extenuating circumstances approved by the department.
Pre-Trip Meeting – All trips will have a mandatory pre-trip meeting that will be scheduled by the trip leaders prior to the trip’s departure. Uncommunicated absences from the pre-trip meeting will result in forfeiture of one’s spot on the trip.

Programs will operate in any weather including rain and snow, except for those days when the weather conditions exceed trip operations and safety parameters; this includes but is not limited to severe thunderstorms, high winds, flooded trails, reduced visibility, or red air quality alert.
Itinerary Change Discretion – the planned itinerary may be changed at the discretion of the trip leaders based on participants’ health, time limitations, safety, or other unforeseen circumstances.
Transportation – All registered participants will be transported to and from the activity sites in Outdoor Adventures’ vans unless stated otherwise. Trips will begin and end at the Skyline Fitness Center on the Fairfax campus.
Food – Food is included for overnight trips only. Participants on day trips will be responsible for providing their own food unless stated otherwise.
Alcohol, Drugs, & Tobacco – Alcohol, illegal drugs, and tobacco products are prohibited on all Outdoor Adventures trips and programs. Use of these products will result in dismissal from the trip/program and disciplinary action upon return to the university.
Tent Sharing – Participants on Outdoor Adventures’ overnight trips will be expected to share tents with other participants on the trip. Exceptions can be made for extenuating circumstances. Please contact outdoor@gmu.edu with any questions or concerns.
