Building Something Bold. Inclusive. Community-Driven.
Beep Baseball is an adaptive sport designed for blind and visually impaired athletes. Using a beeping ball, buzzing bases, and a high level of trust and communication, the game is fast-paced, physical, and empowering—and now, we’re working to bring it to Mason.
Mason Recreation is in the early stages of developing a Beep Baseball program. In Fall 2024, we hosted our first Learn to Play Clinic, where students, staff, and local community members got to experience the game firsthand. The energy was incredible—and it confirmed there's a place for this program on our campus.
We’re now searching for a Volunteer Head Coach to help bring this vision to life. This role is ideal for someone who is excited to help build a brand-new program and establish Beep Baseball as an adaptive sports opportunity in the Washington, D.C. area.
Until a coach and core volunteer team are identified, formal team development and programming will be on hold.
What is Beep Baseball?
Beep Baseball is a competitive, modified version of baseball designed for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. The sport is governed by the National Beep Baseball Association (NBBA) and has teams competing across the country.
Key features include:
- A beeping ball used for hitting and fielding
- Buzzing bases to guide runners to safety
- Sighted pitchers and catchers assisting batters
- Spotters on defense calling out zones of play
The game prioritizes communication, teamwork, and athleticism—making it a powerful and inclusive experience for all participants.
Our Vision
Our long-term goal is to build a competitive Beep Baseball team made up of students, staff, and community members to eventually compete in NBBA-sanctioned tournaments and events.
Here’s the roadmap:
- Spring 2025 – Recruit a Head Coach and core volunteers
- Summer 2025 – Attend NBBA events to learn, train, and build connections
- Future – Launch a sustainable, inclusive team with regular practices and programming
We are also exploring partnerships through the National Beep Baseball Association (NBBA)— supporting the growth of Beep Baseball programs across the country.
