Lifeguard Certification
Register Online Here – Register online at https://connect.recreation.gmu.edu/. Minors must be registered by an adult. Adults should login to or create their own account and then register the minor using the “add a family member” option on the registration page.

Course Description
These course trains participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. Certification includes Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer through the American Red Cross.
Attendance at all classes is mandatory!
Prerequisites
- Be at least 15 years old by the last day of class.
- Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing using the front crawl and breaststroke.
- Tread water for two minutes using only the legs.
- Swim 20 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
