Water Safety Instructor

Register Online Here – Register online at https://connect.recreation.gmu.edu/. Minors must be registered by an adult. Adults should login to or create their own account and then register the minor using the “add a family member” option on the registration page.

This course trains candidates to teach water safety programs, including the Basic Water Rescue course, the six levels of the Learn to Swim program, and Parent and Child Aquatics.

Prerequisites

  • Be 16 years old by the last day of class.
  • Perform 25 yards each of the following strokes at a Level 4 or better:
    • Front crawl
    • Back crawl
    • Sidestroke
    • Elementary backstroke
    • Butterfly (15 yards)
  • Float in deep water.
  • Tread water for one minute.

Course Dates/Times

Attendance at all class times is mandatory for certification.
