Club Sports Event Supervisor
Job Description
The Club Sports Event Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the smooth operation of home club sports competitions on campus, serving as a key point of contact for spectators, officials, and team personnel. This position primarily works Saturdays, with occasional shifts on Fridays and Sundays, averaging approximately 8 hours per weekend. The supervisor ensures proper execution of game-day operations, adherence to risk management protocols, and coordination across multiple facilities, including the RAC, AFC, and outdoor fields. The role requires mobility between venues and may involve the use of a golf cart or university truck as needed.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Event Oversight & Management:
- Serve as the on-site contact for club sports home events, ensuring smooth operations.
- Assist with event setup, breakdown, and equipment logistics.
- Ensure proper documentation of assumption of risk forms from visiting teams.
- Risk Management & Safety Compliance:
- Enforce all Club Sports and Mason Recreation safety policies.
- Monitor for potential safety hazards and address concerns immediately.
- Assist with emergency response as needed, following the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
- Game Day Operations & Communication:
- Maintain communication with athletic trainers, club officers, and facility staff.
- Assist teams with game day needs, including facility access and sideline setup.
- Provide conflict resolution during disputes or disagreements between spectators and/or participants.
- Document and report any incidents or injuries via Mason’s reporting system.
- Facility & Equipment Management:
- Ensure facilities are left in proper condition post-event, including cleanup and equipment storage.
- Assist in managing scoreboards, PA systems, and other game-day equipment as needed.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required:
- Must be a current George Mason University student in good academic standing.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work independently.
- Ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment and make decisions under pressure.
- Comfortable working outdoors and in various weather conditions.
- Availability to work weekends (primarily Saturdays and occasional Fridays or Sundays).
- Must complete onboarding and training with the Club Sports Office before the first shift.
- Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs and remain on their feet for extended periods.
- Must be able to operate a golf cart or university truck (training provided).
- Must adhere to all Mason Recreation and Club Sports policies.
- American Red Cross First Aid/CPR AED for Professional Rescuers (CPRO) certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must attend periodic staff meetings and training sessions during the week.
Preferred:
- Prior experience with club sports, intramurals, athletics, or event management.
- Knowledge of sports rules and event operations (e.g., field setup, officiating needs, game logistics).
- Previous customer service or supervisory experience.
