Mason Recreation

A letter to our Members | #3

Mason Recreation Members and University Community,

As we work towards our Safe Return to Recreation, our focus is to provide the safest environment possible for the well-being of our students and members. We would like to take this time to share a few anticipated updates as we work closer to our goal of welcoming you back!

Anticipated Opening Date

We are aiming to reopen our recreation facilities on Monday, August 10th beginning with reduced hours of operation and amenities. Please bear in mind that these dates are subject to change. For the most up-to-date information, please visit our Safe Return to Recreation webpage at Recreation.Gmu.Edu/

Future communication will be sent out once we have finalized information regarding our hours of operation, amenities/ services, and any additional guidance we are able to share. To sign up for our email alerts and receive this information directly, click here.

What Will Facility Entry Look Like?

To make sure that our facility is operating within our state mandated capacity standards, as well as to maintain physical distancing and CDC guidelines, we will be utilizing a reservation system when we reopen. More details with how to use this system will be in our upcoming communications.

Things to bear in mind when returning:

  • Masks are required for entry and while in the facility except while engaging in fitness activity.

  • Come dressed and ready to workout. Lockers rooms will be closed.

  • Restrooms will be open.

  • Small bags will be allowed, but must stay with you. Lockers and cubbies will be closed.

  • University screening process will be mandatory for entry. (The scope of this will be determined by the university and we will follow in accordance.)

  • There will be reduced amenities, services, and hours

What Amenities Will Be Open and Available?

To provide the safest environment possible for our returning members, when we re-open we will be offering limited amenities and reduced operations. As of now, we anticipate only our fitness gallery with cardio and weight training equipment to be open and available for use. More information and specific details will be available online when we are closer to our anticipated reopening date.
