Aikido is a complete martial system, derived from Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu, an older, empty hand system of Japanese Samurai. Aikido trains us primarily on unbalancing an attacker, and using the attackers’ weight and strength towards neutralizing aggression. Japanese short staff (Jo), sword (bokken), and knife taking, are part of the practice. Men and women practice together, and in close contact.
